While the price of Nintendo Switch 2 games is still on everyone's lips, the entire market is faltering, due to a particularly difficult economic context. Several major players in the industry are reconsidering their prices and, after increasing the price of its PS Plus subscriptions in several countries, PlayStation is also inflating the price of the PS5 worldwide.
New price increase for the PS5
Never before has a console generation seen such increases. Where the trend is for prices to drop to As a machine's cycle progresses, the opposite is currently happening. After COVID, stock shortages, it's time for a new price increase for the PS5 for Europe, New Zealand, England, and Australia. In France and the rest of the continent, we'll be a little more spared. Only the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will increase its price to €499.99, an increase of €50. The classic version and the PS5 Pro will not see their prices change for the time being.
There is, however, good news for those who have already cracked for the fully dematerialized console or the PlayStation 5 Pro. Sony announces that on the contrary the disc drive, sold separately, let us remember, will undergo a rather significant reduction. Its price therefore drops from 119.99 euros to 79.99 euros. These new prices will be applied from today, April 14, 2025. Here are the new prices for the PS5 and its updated ecosystem day:
- PS5 Digital Edition: €499.99
- PlayStation 5 Standard: €549.99
- PlayStation Pro: €799.99
- Disc Drive: €79.99
“In a difficult economic climate, notably marked by high inflation [...] Sony has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail prices of the PS5 in certain European markets,” the publisher explains in its official press release published on the PS Blog. For information, New Zealand and Australia will be more severely impacted by these increases, which will affect both the standard PS5 and the digital version.
