AMD is about to launch its RX 9060 XT, a graphics card that should compete directly with Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060.
Last February, AMD launched its first graphics cards in the Radeon RX 9000 family. These mid-range models have received a rather favorable reception from the public and the specialized press, and we ourselves were seduced by the performance of the RX 9070 XT during our product test.
While Nvidia has just presented its RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060, we are still waiting for AMD on the entry-level field for this generation of GPUs. And the wait should not be very long. According to a report published On the Board Channels forums, which are often a reliable source of information regarding upcoming GPU releases, AMD is expected to make its RX 9060 XT available on May 18th.
RX 9060 XT: AMD's response to Nvidia's RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti
The manufacturer was apparently aiming for a June release, but has reportedly moved up its schedule. It is unclear whether the May 18th date corresponds to an announcement or the opening of sales. It is noteworthy that it is a Sunday, which may seem odd. Perhaps AMD plans to start communicating on social media this weekend, and a proper presentation of the graphics card will take place at Computex 2025 in Taipei, which is scheduled to kick off on May 20.
As with Nvidia's RTX 5060 Ti, AMD will reportedly release the RX 9060 XT in two versions: 8GB or 16GB of VRAM. The price difference between the two will be a determining factor, but generally speaking, we at Phonandroid believe that it is often better to avoid graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM these days for the long term.
There is also mention of an RX 9070 GRE, a variant of the RX 9070 with 12GB of VRAM and a 192-bit interface. This one is said to be released in China, before a possible release in the rest of the world. Initially planned for May 2025, it should finally arrive later this year.
