Too often ignored, this tip for Xiaomi phones nevertheless allows you to boost their battery life

For some time now, many phone users have been complaining about battery life problems on their devices. Don't worry: if you too are experiencing this kind of problem, here is a very simple solution to implement that should considerably reduce the energy consumption of your smartphone.

More and more users are finding that their Xiaomi smartphone consumes far too much energy. Whether under HyperOS, released at the end of 2023, or its recent HyperOS 2 update, the problem is not new and has not yet been officially resolved. Because there is no “problem” in reality…

It is not really a bug, but rather a “feature” somewhat forgotten by Xiaomi. Useful a few years ago, it no longer really has a reason to exist and can be deactivated without risk. We explain how to access it and, above all, how to ensure that your smartphone regains its autonomy.

How to improve the autonomy of Xiaomi smartphones

On Xiaomi smartphones, for a few years now, we have found an automatic background startup function. In short, as soon as you turn on your smartphone, Android and HyperOS load a certain number of applications into memory. The objective? It has two purposes: to allow them to launch even faster than usual, but also to send the user notifications specific to each of these applications (alarm, new message from one of their contacts, etc.). And it is precisely this function that is the source of the problem, since it continuously drains the smartphone's energy.

Moreover, this feature is not really useful. On the one hand, because applications now launch almost instantly, whether they are already loaded in memory or not. And on the other hand, because the notification system duplicates the one already integrated into Android.

To solve this small battery life “issue”, the trick is relatively simple. Proceed as follows:

  1. Go to the phone’s settings
  2. Scroll down the screen until you reach the Apps
  3. Click on the Auto-start in the background
  4. This is where you can remove from the list (but not from the smartphone, don’t worry) the applications that are constantly running on your phone. Don’t do this for all the applications, but only those that you use too rarely. For example, it is better to keep instant messaging applications.

Note that you can go even further in the energy consumption settings of the smartphone and installed applications:

  1. Go back to the App function, as mentioned previously
  2. Select one of the applications from the list that appears
  3. Then click on Battery
  4. By default, all applications are set to Battery Saver. This is a mode that analyzes the use you make of your applications and grants them certain privileges based on the frequency with which they are used. Have you noticed that an app you use very rarely remains active despite everything? Don't worry, you also have the option to block it from all activity after 10 minutes.
