Ubisoft had somewhat righted the ship with Assassin's Creed Shadows, but the studio could well quickly fall back into disarray. The French company's next game has leaked, and everything suggests that it's not a very good idea.

Ubisoft finds its way back to life with Assassin's Creed

If Ubisoft had a chance of being reborn, it was thanks to Assassin's Creed, its flagship franchise. Despite Despite the controversies, Shadows has managed to revive a studio that was adrift. Be careful, the company is not yet completely saved. This latest game mainly serves as a lifeline. Ubisoft nevertheless displays the ambition to get its head above water, and paradoxically with a game where it is omnipresent.

It may well be that Shadows is not the only Assassin's Creed game to be released this year. Indeed, a remake of Black Flag has been talked about for several months, even several years. With this latest installment, Ubisoft would be sure to hit the mark, this opus being considered one of the best in the saga. The studio is therefore banking on its cult license to regain success, but not only that. Ubisoft also plans to relaunch multiplayer, a decision that, in our opinion, looks like a very bad idea.

Ubisoft will try the battle royale experience again

Ubisoft has been walking on eggshells for several years. After several failures, the studio no longer has the right to make mistakes. And yet, its next project seems to be heading in this direction. According to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is working on the "Scout" project, a battle royale inspired by Apex Legends. A particularly surprising choice given the current state of the genre. Apex Legends has been suffering a sharp decline lately. While it had nearly 500,000 players at its peak, this year it now stands at around 150,000. A drastic 70% drop that could cost it dearly. Ubisoft may be planning to take advantage of this drop to jump in, but in reality, if Apex Legends is less popular, it's for a good reason. The battle royale has been declined in all sauces, and few are those that have lasted over time. The genre is saturated and it would be a serious mistake to align itself with it, especially since Ubisoft had already burned its wings with Hyper Scape in 2020, which was a real failure. Even if we have to wait and see what this "Scout" project will give before judging it, the simple fact of returning to This formula shows that the studio hasn't learned from its mistakes, and that's a shame.
