Vivoactive 6: Garmin refine its multi-sport public consumer watch

Fortunately, it wasn't an April Fool's joke – it was a cruel summer for those who have been eagerly awaiting it since the release of the Vivoactive 5 in 2023: Garmin presented its Vivoactive 6, descendant of a line born in 2015 (the Garmin Vivoactive 3, which we tested, dates back to 2017).

Compared to the previous iteration, the changes are slight. It's an evolution more than a revolution. It must be said that the Vivoactive 5 had marked a break by integrating an AMOLED screen.

An unchanged base

The newcomer retains almost the same case size as its predecessor. On its website, Garmin lists 42.2 x 42.2 x 10.9 mm for the Vivoactive 6; 42.2 x 42.2 x 11.1 mm for the Vivoactive 5. The weight with the strap remains at 36 grams.

No change either regarding the screen size: the diameter does not move one iota (30.4 mm). The same goes for the definition, still 390 x 390 pixels.
Regarding battery life, the brand still promises up to 11 days, or 5 days with the screen permanently activated. We will spare you the durations for all modes since they do not change.

More storage and some additional features

At At this point in your reading, you're probably wondering if anything has changed. Rest assured, it has, including on the purely hardware side. The Vivoactive 6 doubles its internal memory: it goes from 4 GB to 8 GB. It thus offers more storage for applications and data.

But Garmin, which makes healthy living the key to happiness, has especially focused on sports and lifestyle features. For the former, the brand boasts more than 80 preloaded sports applications, including walking, running, cycling, and even pool swimming. Additionally, users can enrich their experience with Garmin Connect's downloadable workout library. For runners, the watch "tracks essential metrics like cadence, stride length, and ground contact time," according to Garmin.

Speaking of lifestyle features, the list is long. Let's highlight the new one, the smart wake-up. It wakes the sleeper at the most opportune time, that is, during a light sleep phase. Otherwise, features such as Body Battery (capable of measuring your "energy capital 24 hours a day") and stress monitoring are still present.

You will be able to buy a Vivoactive 6 from March 4 on the Garmin website. The connected watch is offered in a single size of 42 mm but comes in four colors (Lunar Gold with ivory strap, Gray with black strap, Metallic Jasper Green with fir green strap and Metallic Pink Dawn with peach pink strap). It is priced at $299.99 / €329.99.
