Microsoft announces the arrival of streaming some of the games we own from Xbox consoles, without having to install them. Not everyone is entitled to it, though, here's how it works.
Remember the time when to play When you played a video game, all you had to do was insert the cartridge or disc into the console and turn it on? These actions still exist today, of course, but are tending to disappear in the face of the rise of dematerialized. On PC, gamers have been using them for a long time. On console, the latest generation comes in versions with and without a disc drive.
And that's not to mention services like Xbox Game Pass, which gives you access to thousands of games for a paid subscription. One of the advantages is that you can launch a title from the catalog on all compatible devices, what Microsoft calls Xbox Cloud Gaming. But despite these advances, it took until the end of 2024 for Xbox Cloud Gaming to open up to its own games, not just those from Game Pass. Now, it's even more flexible.
You can stream your games from an Xbox console, but not everyone is eligible
The Xbox April 2025 update is full of new features, and among them is the ability to stream your own games from an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console. These devices join Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TVs, Meta Quest headsets, as well as web browsers on PCs, smartphones, and tablets.

There are, however, two conditions to meet. The first is to be a subscriber to the Game Pass Ultimate plan, the most expensive at €17.99 per month. No surprise here, it's the only one to offer Cloud Gaming. The second is to launch one of the games in this list only. It will expand over time. To stream a title from your Xbox console:
- Go to My Games & apps then Full Library > Owned Games.
- Each compatible game will display a cloud icon.
- Alternatively, you can use a dedicated filter by going to Filter > Ready to Play > Cloud Gaming.
- Choose a game then select Play via Cloud.
