The Élysée Palace has a new presidential car, and it's 100% electric. After the DS 7 Élysée, French President Emmanuel Macron was paraded during the May 8, 1945, commemoration in the new DS N°8 (that's its name), the French brand's new flagship, with deliveries to the general public scheduled for the second half of the year.
As the new presidential car, the DS N°8 has been modified to meet the necessary safety standards. Other stylistic elements differentiate the prestigious sedan from the production version, which, as you'll discover, is not originally produced in France. After the DS 7 Élysée in 2022, DS is renewing its position as presidential car supplier for the fourth time. Let's emphasize that it is the first 100% electric.
1/ It has a blue, white, and red grille
DS Automobile presents its new No. 8 sedan as its new flagship. Available from September 2025, the model will be marketed from 59,200 euros in its entry-level version. To easily differentiate it from the latter, let us first note that the DS N°8 Presidential gets lighting in the colors of the French flag on its impressive grille.
2/ It is a 100% electric car but not 100% made in France
Several craftsmen participated in the project to modify the DS N°8 into a presidential car. Among them is the French specialist in luxury marquetry, Ateliers Lison de Caunes, which is responsible for modifying the materials of the dashboard in the sedan with straw marquetry. The Parisian craftsman, founded in 1978, also took care of the front doors.
We also note the participation of the Métaphores brand, part of the Hermès textile sector, specializing in the weaving and production of fabrics for interior decoration. On board the new DS N°8 Présidentielle, the craftsman focused on Bleu Songe satin panels to dress the passenger compartment, with fabrics from his Verel de Belval collection, giving pride of place to Lyon silk.
Moreover, the DS N°8 is above all a car assembled in Italy, in the Stellantis factories in Melfi, in the south of the country, east of Naples. The car is not made in France, but can still count on an Emotors engine produced in Tremery and ACC battery cells produced in Billy-Berclau.
This is the 97.2 kWh and 245 hp configuration of the sedan, which is also available in a 74 kWh/230 hp version. The President's Long Range version claims a range of 750 km, including 500 km on the highway, although we know that these figures will not be available on the presidential model due to its armor. As standard, a 350 hp version, with all-wheel drive (one motor per axle) will also be available.
3/ It has a sunroof not available as standard
In addition With a blue, white, and red grille, the new DS N°8 Presidential comes with a sunroof, essential for the President of the Republic to be able to stand up on board. This option is not available to customers, who will also not be able to benefit from thermal engines this year. The brand has not announced any hybrid variants, but it is estimated that the range will expand in 2026.
In the meantime, the new DS N°8 Presidential will be on display at the Grand Palais in Paris, during the Révélations trade fair, a biennial exhibition of artistic crafts of which DS Automobiles is a partner. The event will be held from May 21 to 25.
