It's been less than a week since the Minecraft movie hit theaters worldwide, and the feature film is already breaking records. The video game adaptation has been a commercial success for all parties involved so far. Players are therefore logically waiting for the next one, and it seems that Fortnite is the perfect candidate. Rumors are even circulating that it could indeed be the next major game to be given the film adaptation treatment.
The news comes from Daniel RPK, a famous insider who often has accurate information about upcoming game and console releases. He states in a post on X:
Epic Games is on the ball
However, the rumor hasn't gone unnoticed. Tim Sweeney, the current CEO of Epic Games, responded to the message with a single word: "False." The businessman nipped the hopes of Fortnite fans in the bud and denied any plans for the genre. The battle royale would be perfect for this type of exercise thanks to its ultra-rich universe, its distinctive artistic direction, and its very jovial atmosphere. Daniel RPK, however, does not admit defeat. Responding to Tim Sweeney's message, he asks: The CEO's response is still pending. If this story of a prior agreement with Sony is true, then an adaptation was indeed in the pipeline. This means that Epic Games has not always been reluctant to have a film inspired by Fortnite, and therefore that it could eventually resurface. It is tempting to hope for success after the excellent figures of the last adaptations released. Super Mario Bros. The Movie is the perfect example, having made its mark at the global box office in 2023 alongside Barbie and Oppenheimer.
