It's now confirmed by Google: One UI 8, based on Android 16, will be rolled out to Samsung devices "this summer" (running from Saturday, June 21, 2025, to Monday, September 22, 2025). Unlike the laborious update to One UI 7, this new version could arrive much more quickly.
Android 16 and One UI 8: an accelerated rollout at Samsung
Google took advantage of its The Android Show conference, ahead of Google I/O, to formalize the imminent arrival of Android 16 in a stable version. Samsung is among the first manufacturers to offer this update. The beta version of One UI 8, based on Android 16, should be available at the end of the month on a limited selection of Galaxy models. Below, you can see Samsung Vice President Minseok Kang confirm the launch window in a video posted to Android's YouTube channel at the end of the conference.
As always, Samsung is expected to focus on its flagship models first. The Galaxy S25, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, are expected to be among the first to be served. And like every summer, new foldables are expected: the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 should therefore be released directly with One UI 8 pre-installed.
A better controlled update
Android 16 should not disrupt the user experience on Galaxy devices, but this update will focus above all on the stability, fluidity and consistency of the interface. Samsung would thus draw a line under the messy update to One UI 7, criticized for its long delays and its deployment in waves.
So don't expect a revolution: most of the major software improvements were introduced with One UI 7. Nevertheless, the gradual integration of Google's "Material 3 Expressive" design suggests an aesthetic refresh to come in the coming months. A more subtle evolution, therefore, but one which could strengthen the visual consistency between Google applications and the One UI interface.
