Apple sounds the alarm: Searches are dropping on Safari, is AI helping out?

For the first time in over 22 years, search volume has dropped on Safari, causing serious concern for Apple, which is reportedly relying on Claude d'Antropic to upgrade its development tools. Indeed, Eddy Cue told The Verge that this phenomenon had never happened and that it worried him to the point of having "lost a lot of sleep thinking about it."

It must be said that this significant drop in searches is causing a significant drop in revenue for Apple. Not to mention that this jeopardizes its partnership with Google. As a result, the company led by Jim Cook is considering other options to relaunch its search engine, such as the introduction of AI.

AI soon to be present on the Safari search engine?

So, faced with this critical situation for Safari and Apple, the solution could come from search engines based on artificial intelligence. And this is not surprising when we know that Eddy Cue recently expressed his interest in this technology, specifying that in the long term, it will replace traditional engines.

And things are moving forward significantly, because Apple is already in discussions with several entities such as Perplexity, which wants to shake up the Web with its own Comet browser, OpenAI and Anthropic according to Bloomberg. All with the aim of integrating them directly into Safari and replacing the technology provided by Google.

Furthermore, Eddy Cue does not hesitate to take a long-term view, specifying that if current solutions are not enough to increase the number of searches, he will turn to other players.

The miracle solution for Safari?

Today, artificial intelligence is present in many services and it provides important support for millions of people. But it's a new technology that still has a long way to go before it becomes indispensable.

Therefore, Safari won't be giving way to search engines driven entirely by AI. Indeed, Eddy Cue believes they need to make progress, especially regarding their index.

However, this addition may prove beneficial by bringing new features and fast, targeted search results. And to emphasize his point, Cue adds: "There's enough money now, enough big players, that I don't see how it couldn't happen."
