Assassin's Creed Shadows is reportedly preparing a big surprise for you, it has been leaked

A little over a month after its release, development on Assassin's Creed Shadows is far from complete. The title is still expected to receive regular content additions in the future, such as DLC. But a recent leak reveals that another previously rumored element is also in the pipeline for this episode set in feudal Japan.

The shadow of a big surprise is looming for Assassin's Creed Shadows

Well before its release, marked by numerous delays, various reports suggested that Assassin's Creed Shadows would be entitled to a co-op or multiplayer mode after its release, deployed as part of a major post-launch update. However, we had not heard anything about it since, until this recent discovery by modder Sliderv2. While digging through the game files, he discovered some significant signs in the text of the title's documents.

In the X.com post below, it does indeed mention three mentions of a multiplayer mode or related elements. We therefore find lines of text such as "RED_PVP_MAPS" or "RED_PVP_GYM". As a reminder, Red is the code name used internally by Ubisoft for Assassin's Creed Shadows. This could therefore indicate that the French giant is indeed working on integrating a multiplayer mode into the title, which would also pit different players against each other. However, there is no apparent reference to any kind of co-op mode.

In any case, the addition of a multiplayer mode to Shadows would put an end to more than ten years of absence of such a feature on a title of the franchise. The last one with such a mode was indeed Black Flag released in 2013, while Unity released in 2014 abandoned PVP to offer co-op missions. However, it remains to be seen what consequences the potential addition of a multiplayer mode to Assassin's Creed Shadows will have for Invictus, which is supposed to be an exclusively multiplayer game. We will have to wait for Ubisoft to officially come forward to find out for sure.
