Marvel fans will have to be patient. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars have officially been postponed. The studio is revising its schedule for these two highly anticipated blockbusters.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe's schedule is shifting once again. Disney has decided to postpone its next two Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, considered the pillars of the studio's next phase. These projects, entrusted to the Russo brothers, are already generating massive anticipation among fans. According to the American media Deadline, the studio wants to give itself more time to make particularly ambitious films, both visually and narratively. This change is part of a long-term planning approach, to relaunch a universe in the midst of reorganization.
This kind of readjustment is not unprecedented at Marvel. The studio now relies on more strategic release periods, such as the winter holidays. December proved to be particularly lucrative, notably with the global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. By postponing its next two blockbusters, the company is following a tried and tested logic: ensuring an optimal window to attract viewers en masse. The directors are announcing a "radical" approach to the next Avengers, which are expected to mark a decisive turning point for the future of the MCU.
Marvel wants to relaunch the MCU with two Avengers pushed back to the end of 2026 and 2027
It is in this context that Avengers: Doomsday is now expected for December 18, 2026, instead of the initial May 1. As for Avengers: Secret Wars, it has been moved from May 7 to December 17, 2027. These new dates confirm Marvel's desire to fine-tune every detail of these blockbusters. Filming for Doomsday began in April 2025, which left little leeway. The cast is up to the challenge, with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal and many other headliners. The wait promises to be long, but justified.
These postponements don't just concern The Avengers. Disney has also reorganized the release of several other major films, such as The Dog Stars by Ridley Scott or The Devil Wears Prada 2. The goal is to avoid internal competition and better distribute the big titles throughout the year. After a period marked by an avalanche of productions, the studio seems to want to slow down the pace to find a certain balance. Fans will have to wait a little longer, but this strategy aims to guarantee a more memorable experience, up to the expectations of the public.
