While Battlefield 6 is still in its internal testing phase, a new video from Battlefield Labs has just surfaced. It highlights the return of a mechanic familiar to Battlefield 5 players: the roll upon landing. A feature designed to limit fall damage... but which now seems to divide the community.
A return that is not unanimously welcomed for Battlefield 6
The sequence, captured by an anonymous tester and shared on social media, shows a player using a sniper rifle before speeding down a slope and performing a roll to break their fall. So far, nothing new for fans of the franchise. Except this time, the animation seems less fluid for Battlefield 6 and a little “heavy” on the screen.
The reactions were swift. Some players are talking about a “weird” or “uncomfortable” movement, going so far as to mention the risk of nausea linked to motion sickness. For a feature that, in Battlefield5, was rather well received, this return is disappointing.
A desire to return to the basics?
With Battlefield Labs, EA and DICE seem to want to reconcile the series with its foundations for Battlefield 6. After criticism of the last installments, which focused on cosmetics, Battle Royale modes, and a lack of stability at launch, this new episode aims for a more classic, more “Battlefield” approach. The return of the roll upon landing could therefore be part of this rehabilitation logic.
But the mechanics still need to be well implemented. Currently, the animations seem perfectible, and the gameplay sensations are not yet up to scratch. There is still time to refine everything, but this leak is a reminder that details, even minor ones, can make all the difference in such a fast-paced FPS. EA plans to release Battlefield 6 before the end of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, i.e. by April 2026. This still leaves several months of development and testing, which could reassure players.
