Borderlands 4 Might Cost More Than You Think

Borderlands 4 Might Cost More Than You Think

Are you tired of hearing about price increases in the video game industry? Us too. Unfortunately, it seems this is just the beginning. At PAX East 2025, Gearbox Software held a long panel dedicated to Borderlands 4, its next title expected for September 12, 2025. And while the event was notably an opportunity for the studio to reassure players with exciting information on the gameplay, it was also an opportunity for it to prepare the ground for a potential price increase for the game.

A price increase for Borderlands 4?

Indeed, during the event, the burning question of the moment irrevocably came up. And on this subject, Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, was very clear: for the moment, the studio does not yet know at what price the game will be released. However, he did not fail to point out the fact that the development cost of Borderlands 4 had doubled that of Borderlands 3, which could be reflected in the final price of the game. And this kind of talk, we know perfectly well where it leads.

"We live in an interesting time," he said at the time. "On the one hand, we have a competitive market where the people who are making these choices want to sell as many units as possible and want to pay attention to people who are price-sensitive. Some people don't want to see prices increase, even among those who decide the prices. Others accept the reality, which is that budgets for games are increasing and there are rates for boxed retail sales. Things are getting worse, folks," Pitchford assures.

Gearbox temporizes a little longer

"The truth is, I don't know what the price will be," he concludes, however, before implying once again that it "could be at the new price that Nintendo and Microsoft have set.". In other words: €90. And let's not lie: that wouldn't surprise anyone. Because as always, all it takes is one publisher to start paving the way for others to follow suit. We're betting that we'll soon find out about this for Borderlands 4, which should be available for pre-orders soon.
