Fortnite is no longer available on iOS. According to Epic Games, its publisher, Apple has voluntarily blocked the game on iPhone and iPad due to the legal dispute between the two companies since 2020.

Can't play Fortnite on iOS anymore? You're not alone, the game is blocked worldwide.

Never has a game been so talked about because it can't be played. At least on some devices. In 2020, the very popular Fortnite was banned from the Play Store and the App Store. Its publisher, Epic Games, had introduced its own payment solution in the application, thereby avoiding paying the mandatory commissions on all in-app transactions to Google and Apple. Not intending to sit on this money, the two giants chose to remove the game from their respective stores.

This is the starting point of a legal battle pitting Epic Games against Apple for nearly 5 years now. In 2024, hope was reborn for iPhone or iPad owners in Europe: it was possible to install Fortnite on an iOS device using an alternative app store. Europe had indeed forced the Cupertino company to authorize this type of program. The solution was not ideal, however. On May 9, 2025, Epic resubmitted Fortnite to Apple for publication on the American App Store.

Apple allegedly voluntarily blocked Fortnite on iOS, Epic Games accuses the Apple brand

The problem is that Apple is not responding to the request. In the meantime, the game was updated, forcing Epic Games to remove the app and re-release it in its most recent version. The result was the same: no response from Tim Cook's company.

As a result, Fortnite is inaccessible on iOS, even via the Epic Games Store app. According to the publisher, the block is intentional and means that “Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.”

However, it is unclear why this also affects access via the Epic Games Store in Europe. The most likely hypothesis is that it is an update issue, as each update is deployed simultaneously on all platforms. To avoid creating an imbalance, the simplest solution was surely to completely prevent access to the game on iOS anywhere in the world, regardless of the means used.
