ChatGPT is mentioned in a rather unusual divorce case: the generative assistant allegedly told a woman that her husband was cheating on her, without any evidence. Except for the photos of coffee grounds that she had asked him to analyze.
Have you noticed that OpenAI has removed its warning message when starting a new conversation with ChatGPT? The story we're about to tell you seems to indicate that this disclaimer about the high risk of errors in the assistant's answers was still quite useful.
In Greece, a married clairvoyant is in fact filing for divorce. A radical decision that she explains she made without any other evidence after asking ChatGPT to analyze... photos of coffee grounds. The Greek channel ANT1 (via Ouest-France) reports that the couple, married for 12 years, decided one evening to surf a trend on social networks.
Is it really reasonable to divorce because of ChatGPT?
The concept was simple: take photos of your coffee cup, before sending everything to ChatGPT, who was then supposed to play the clairvoyant. A game, for the husband who said he agreed to play it “for fun.” Except that his partner, for her part, takes clairvoyance very seriously. And the couple has already barely survived the words of a psychic during a consultation.
The husband, however, did not expect his wife to give so much credence to an AI, however sophisticated it may be. A point on which, clearly, he was mistaken. Because, unfortunately for him, ChatGPT deduced from the analysis of the coffee traces that he was secretly cheating on his wife. In response, his wife seemed to give enormous credence to the AI's opinion.
The man recounts:“The conclusion of 'science' was that I was cheating on her with a young woman who intended to close the door on us. I thought it was pointless to explain to her that it was absurd and I laughed.”From there, he could still hope that a night's sleep would bring everyone back to reason.
But no: from this point on, the partner was well and truly determined to file the papers in court. Even if it meant citing ChatGPT as “proof” of this supposed adultery. Faced with this rather complicated situation, and despite her attempts to make her see reason, he resigned himself to accepting his status as ex-husband.
But not without fighting for custody of his two children. The procedure, so far unprecedented, is still ongoing. The lawyer for the soon-to-be divorced man remains confident, however. The latter simply intends to assert the absurdity of the grounds for divorce to support the request for custody.
