ChatGPT is available in a free version, but it is possible to subscribe to access an even more powerful tool. One such plan is ChatGPT Plus, priced at $20 per month. It gives priority access to the chatbot during peak traffic, generates responses faster, and offers early access to new features.

This useful option will become available free of charge to residents of the UAE. As part of a partnership between OpenAI and the country's government, the company will make this premium version of the AI assistant available to the entire population, reports The Economic Times. It is understood that you won't need to be a UAE citizen to take advantage of it, only that you reside there. It is unclear at this stage whether using a VPN could allow access to ChatGPT Plus by connecting to a server located in the UAE or by borrowing a local IP address.

ChatGPT Plus free for everyone… in the UAE

OpenAI recently announced the launch of the Stargate UAE project, which consists of the construction of a data center specialized in very high-performance AI in Abu Dhabi, the capital. Initially, this infrastructure is expected to generate 200 megawatts of power. But eventually, it is expected to reach one gigawatt, making it one of the most powerful AI computing centers in the world.

The UAE wants to establish itself as a major player in the global race for AI, and this alliance with OpenAI should make it the essential country in the Middle East in this field. A few weeks ago, a report from UNCTAD (United Nations Commission on Trade and Development) warned of the widening inequalities that could result from unequal access to AI tools. Strategically, countries that miss the AI transition risk seeing their development lag further. The UAE is aware of this and is taking the lead. In addition to hosting this data center, it will also invest heavily in AI projects in the United States.
