Disney updated the release schedule for several of its gray films last night. Unfortunately, this will also affect MCU fans. Avengers: Doomsday, which was previously announced for May 1, 2026, is now scheduled for December 18 of that year. As for Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for May 7, 2027, we'll have to wait until December 17. In France, the dates for these two films were April 29, 2026, and May 5, 2027, respectively.
More time to finalize the films
So no change of year (phew!), but 8-month postponements. According to Deadline's sources, this is to give the production of these two big monsters a little more time to "fulfill its vision." These two Avengers are also shaping up to be among the most expensive films in history, so Disney doesn't want to miss out. But obviously, the announcement is a disappointment for the hordes of fans eagerly awaiting the return of the Avengers, after the multiple disappointments of previous Marvel films and series.
This return of the Avengers after Endgame (2019) also marks the return of the Russo brothers at the helm. The directors of several MCU installments are also joined by Robert Downey Jr., not in the role of Iron Man but as Dr. Doom, which is obviously as bizarre as it is exciting.
Disney has also cleared its schedule. Thus, the date of February 13, 2026, which was normally supposed to host an unknown Marvel project, has been completely removed. The dates of November 6, 2026 and November 5, 2027, which also had Marvel projects on the schedule, will be limited to "unannounced Disney films."
This also means that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in theaters before Doomsday. The fourth film from the friendly neighborhood web-slinger is still scheduled for July 31, 2026.
The next Marvel movie in theaters will also be one of the most anticipated in recent years: Fantastic Four, which is still scheduled to debut on July 23.
