Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

In a classic shonen, the heroes are obligated to win. This can be done logically, but sometimes the villains lose for no real reason. Dragon Ball is no exception, with seven villains defeated because the heroes were protected by the storyline.

#1 Zamasu - Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

During the Black Goku arc, our heroes were often defeated by the antagonists. Black Goku and Zamasu were far more powerful than our favorite characters, especially when they fused. That's when Trunks intervenes with Super Saiyan Rage, a transformation that, thanks to his sword charged with the energy of the last humans, allows him to slice the fused Zamasu in two. The symbolism is strong, but, in reality, this power-up is too powerful. To make matters worse for the villain, he is eliminated by a deus ex machina. A sad end for the best antagonist of DBS.

#2 Broly - Dragon Ball Z: Broly the Super Warrior

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

The Dragon Ball movies can't afford to lose the heroes. Thus, even the most powerful villains are forced to be defeated. The case of Broly is quite unique. Indeed, the Legendary Super Saiyan spends the entire film demolishing the Z-Fighters, without the latter managing to gain the upper hand. If they achieve victory, it is only because they gave their energy to Goku. Thus, in a single punch, the threat is eradicated. It is a victory that is far too easy given Broly's power.

#3 Freeza - Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

On Namek, it is obvious that Freeza should have won if he had not been so arrogant and lazy. On the other hand, in DBS he had indeed won. By blowing up the Earth, he had managed to defeat Vegeta and deal the heroes a setback. Unfortunately for him, it was all for nothing, because Whis went back in time a few seconds. In the end, the scenario was rather kind to him by granting him incredible power with his transformation into Black Frieza. However, it remains to be seen whether this will not turn against him again in the future...

#4 Tao Pai Pai - Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

Tao Pai Pai's defeat against Goku was decided by a few centimeters. Indeed, during their first fight, the villain outclassed the hero. Tao Pai Pai then ends the confrontation with a Dondonpa who left no doubt about Goku's condition. However, the latter survived, thanks to his grandfather's 4-star Dragon Ball. Goku was quite lucky, though.

#5 Piccolo Daimao - Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

Goku was really lucky during his youth, and this is confirmed once again with Piccolo Daimao. As with Tao Pai Pai, Goku was no match for Piccolo Daimao in their first fight. The villain even did better, as the hero was indeed lifeless. Indeed, Goku's heart was no longer beating, and Piccolo Daimao even checked it out. Goku's survival is truly a miracle (and a little help from Akira Toriyama too).

#6 Buu - Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

The hero of the Buu arc is Mister Satan, but that could have been the case. Videl's father showed incredible luck and great resilience. During the Cell arc, the villain sweeps him away with a simple backhand. Granted, Cell was holding back completely, as Piccolo pointed out, but Mister Satan was still thrown against a mountain and suffered a fall that no human would have survived. He was protected by the fact that it was nothing more or less a gag, but if Toriyama hadn't made Mister Satan a humorous character, our heroes would have been in deep trouble against Buu.

#7 Beerus - Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball: 7 Villains Defeated Because Heroes Are Protected by the Storyline

The fight between Goku and Beerus in DBS doesn't really have a winner, but what is certain is that the hero should have lost his life. In a moment never seen before in the anime, the god pierces the Saiyan's stomach, causing him to fall from the stratosphere to the sea. As Goku bled out, he began to regenerate. This is the only time we've seen the Super Saiyan God do this, much to the delight of the main character concerned, not the viewers, who wondered where this power came from.
