It was in the middle of the second season of The Last of Us that Amazon decided to drop a bombshell about its own hit post-apocalyptic series. Fallout will return this year, and it's been official since the company shared the first trailer for season 2. Whether in the short or long version (thanks to our colleagues at Jeux Vidéo Magazine for the French subtitles), it promises a rather revealing sequel regarding the story of one character in particular.
Indeed, we can see Conrad Cooper—who will later become the Ghoul—filming a series of commercials for brands well-known to gamers. He does this inside the fallout shelters of the Vault-Tec company, with which he has a contract. In the previous season, we actually learned that his wife, who works in the upper echelons of society, is what allowed him to land this opportunity.
The more time passes, the more absurd and ridiculous the advertisements seem, as the Earth's population prepares to live underground for centuries. Cooper tries to escape the system, but he doesn't seem to succeed. It's not yet known if this scene will be featured in the series or if it simply serves as an illustration to promote Season 2, and it's also not known if this bit of plot is supposed to take place before or after the end-of-season revelations about the character.
A few seconds later, we find our main character, Lucy, played by Ella Purnell. With her sidekick, she wants to get her father back, who fled in the last episode of Season 1 with Maximus's armor towards New Vegas. We can also see the city in the background, nestled in the middle of the American desert.
A release date at the end of the year
We'll have to wait until December to find out what happens to the characters who are facing major problems with Vault-Tec. And since good news never comes alone, Amazon has announced what most fans were waiting for.
Season 3 has already been ordered by the company. It didn't wait for the figures for season 2 to get an idea of the series' success and prefers to bet on the long term with Fallout. It must be said that the first season is a real goldmine, breaking a number of records in a very short time.
