Broadcast this Tuesday, May 13, 2025 on W9, the 2025 Flames ceremony was censored by the M6 group channel. The reason? Comedian Merwane Benlazar, a guest on the set, directly attacked Cyril Hanouna, their new host. A whole section of his speech was therefore removed during the delayed broadcast...
The Flames 2025 censored by W9
It is not good to criticize Cyril Hanouna on the M6 group...

The passage of Merwane Benlazar's speech on Hanouna was cut between the YouTube broadcast and the broadcast on W9 https://t.co/TVPcvYxfP8 pic.twitter.com/lGZVEgjBsy
Since the end of February and the closure of C8, Cyril Hanouna no longer hosts the flagship show, Touche Pas à Mon Poste, on television. But this break will only be short-lived, since the host will soon be back on air with a new show broadcast on W9 at the start of the school year. The M6 group channel, which broadcast the Flames 2025 ceremony on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, also censored an excerpt from Merwane Benlazar's speech targeting Cyril Hanouna... This ceremony, which rewards French rap and R&B artists, took place at La Seine Musicale, in Boulogne-Billancourt, and was broadcast live on YouTube, then delayed on W9. Comedian Merwane Benlazar, who hosted part of the ceremony, saw his very politically engaged speech truncated by the channel:
I'm free tonight, they told me 'You do what you want, you say what you want, just no head covering. So I came with my incipient baldness and that should be fine (...)Anyway, racists don't watch Les Flammes. They don't watch TV anymore, Hanouna is gone. No, it must be said, racists turn on the TV from time to time and put on CNews (...) It's not me who should be applauded, it's Chat GPT.
Internet users react to Merwane Benlazar's speech
But Merwane Benlazar didn't just attack Cyril Hanouna, since he also referred to W9's position on the host.
[He] returns to the channel where we are broadcast. This means that on the channel where we are broadcast, at the start of the school year and every evening, there will be the best promotion of the extreme right. [...] And how can we fight that, guys? Here, on the same channel, like we're doing tonight, guys. That's Les Flammes, it's our ceremony, let's make the most of it! We're followed on YouTube, on Twitch, there's even a rebroadcast at 11 p.m. on W9. Can't wait for the racists to say "Go ahead, they've largely replaced The Simpsons."
The censorship of this speech did not fail to raise eyebrows among Internet users, who praised the comedian's audacity.
W9 cut this passage in the delayed broadcast lol https://t.co/gvdwv50KAu

But you had a doubt, lol? If the ceremony is delayed for TV broadcast, it's EXACTLY for that

I didn't watch the ceremony but it must be the coolest thing that happened https://t.co/1gxsl47VeM

While Arcom's decision to bury TPMP, Cyril Hanouna and C8 in 2024 was described as the death of freedom of expression by the host star and his supporters, it seems that the latter also plays with this "Joker" to protect himself from criticism.
