For the first time, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could drop a notch in performance

If you've been following the rumors surrounding the Galaxy S closely, you've probably noticed that one topic comes up every year around the Korean brand's high-end smartphones: will they run on Snapdragon or Exynos? Until now, folding smartphones have been spared from this debate, but according to Chosun Daily, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will run on Exynos.

Snapdragon or Exynos, why is it important?

As a reminder, the two names refer to two very distinct ranges of chips. Snapdragon is designed by Qualcomm and generally takes a comfortable position as market leader. The problem is that its chips are reputed to be more expensive. Exynos, on the other hand, refers to chips designed internally by Samsung, which are necessarily less expensive for the Korean giant to produce, but which are often a little behind in terms of performance.

If the choice never seems clear year after year, it's because Samsung changes its mind almost every time. The Galaxy S25 and S23 all had Snapdragon, the cheapest Galaxy S24s were under Exynos, the Ultra model under Snapdragon, and the Galaxy S22 range had been particularly criticized for its choice of a range entirely focused on Exynos.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 under Exynos: it's not very clear yet

As the Korean publication details, a lot of unofficial information has circulated in recent months about the SoC of the future flip smartphone. Some had already mentioned the possibility of a switch to Exynos, which would be a first for a Samsung folding device.

The Chosun adds its stone to the edifice by claiming to have interviewed an internal source. This source would have confirmed the choice of the Exynos 2500. The main reason given is very simple: cost. In addition, this somewhat aggressive choice would probably help the Seoul-based company in its future negotiations with Qualcomm, which remains an important partner.

The source in question, on condition of anonymity, told our colleagues:

If you are interested in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which should be full of interesting new features this year, it should retain a Snapdragon chip.
