Google has released updates on Android 16, including the release window for the new operating system from various manufacturers. The company confirms that the stable version will begin shipping next month, with more specific information for Google Pixel and Samsung smartphones.
Owners of recent Android smartphones shouldn't have to wait much longer for the arrival of Android 16. The president of the Android division at Alphabet, Sameer Samat, took advantage of the Android Show to provide some information on the release date of the new major version of the operating system.
First of all, we now know that Google is planning to release Android 16 next month on a limited number of smartphones. As you may have already guessed, Google Pixel smartphones will receive the update first. Sameer Samat declares that “get ready for updates to arrive on your Pixel devices next month.”
Compatible smartphones will receive Android 16 “next month”
But there are also updates for other brands. Although we should expect a bit longer, since the company only gives “this summer” as the timeframe for the latter. Samsung should be among the most responsive on the subject. The arrival of OneUI 8 under Android 16 is expected to coincide with the launch of the brand's new foldable smartphones.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy 7 Flip 7 are expected for July – while the new interface has already been starting to be tested for a few weeks on the company's premium smartphones. This makes it safe to imagine an arrival on part of the range between the end of July and sometime in August. At least if development doesn't run into any difficulties in the meantime.
Android 16 introduces a new design called "Material 3 Expressive" with smoother animations and dynamic themes. In addition, it heralds the arrival of Live Updates, tracking notifications (trip, delivery, navigation, etc.) permanently pinned to the lock screen. The system should also strengthen smartphone security with an improved anti-scam and anti-reset protection block.
