Google Drive is getting smarter with a new option dedicated to document analysis. It is now possible to interact directly with the content without even opening the files.
Storing documents in the cloud has become a habit for many users. Whether for work files, statements, reports, or school materials, Google Drive centralizes a large portion of everyday digital content. But consulting, sorting, or finding specific information in these files often remains tedious, especially when they accumulate over the years. Traditional search tools are not always enough to quickly find what you need.
To facilitate this management, Google is introducing a new feature based on Gemini, its integrated artificial intelligence. The tool allows you to analyze a file in detail and interact with its content without having to open it manually. Rollout has already begun for Google Workspace users and Google One AI Premium subscribers. As we mentioned a few days ago, Google Drive continues to be enriched with AI functions capable of summarizing, searching, and extracting information from stored files.
Gemini allows you to query a file in Google Drive without even opening it
With this function, the user can chat with Gemini about a document stored in Drive. It is possible to ask specific questions, request a summary, or extract information without having to browse the file. Artificial intelligence supports different formats: text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, or PDFs. This capability extends the tools already available on the web version of the app.
The service is currently limited to subscribers to Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, and Education plans, as well as users of the Google One AI Premium plan. Free accounts cannot yet access it. Unlike traditional analysis functions, the tool here does not require manual document opening. Processing is carried out directly in the Drive interface, with responses displayed as a conversation. The rollout is underway internationally. This new feature confirms Google's goal: to transform its cloud into a true AI-driven productivity assistant.
