For those wondering what differences in graphics can be expected between the Switch 2 and the Switch 1, a video comparison with Hogwarts Legacy demonstrates this.

The first owners of a Switch 2 will soon be able to get their hands on the console. It's coming out on June 5, 2025, and while the launch catalog lacks exclusives aside from Mario Kart World, players will have the opportunity to enjoy games from third-party publishers. Some were never released on the first Switch, others were, but will be available in a version specially optimized for the Switch 2. This is the case of Hogwarts Legacy, the single-player game in the Harry Potter universe from Avalanche that caused a sensation in early 2023.

For the occasion, Nintendo published a graphic comparison video between the Switch 2 version and the Switch 1 version of the game. On the left, you can see Hogwarts Legacy on the first Switch, and on the right, the same scene on Switch 2. The improvement is very noticeable. First, the Switch 1 version looks extremely pale, as if a gray filter was applied to the image. The contrast and colorimetry are much more pleasing to the eye on Switch 2.

Hogwarts Legacy's Switch 2 graphics show themselves

The projection of shadows and lights also seems much more precise on the new generation of the hybrid console. The image is more detailed on Switch 2, which can undoubtedly be attributed to a higher definition, but not only that. In certain scenes, like on the bridge to access Hogsmeade, the textures appear more worked and we have less the impression of evolving in a cardboard setting.

The animations are unfortunately not any more successful at first glance. When the character flies on a broomstick, the effect of the wind on the dress seems to be the same on both consoles. The dress itself, however, is a little less coarse on Switch 2. It is difficult to determine from these images if the frame rate is higher on Switch 2.

The graphical developments are probably not worth rediscovering Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2 after having played it on Switch 1, but Nintendo players who have missed out until now will be able to enjoy it in better conditions with this new version.
