The Horizon Advances saga continues to carve out a niche for itself step by step. After two highly successful installments on PlayStation and PC consoles, the first installment received a remastered version at the end of 2024 on PS5. This is a perfect opportunity to offer a more marketable product when the film adaptation finally sees the light of day. At least, if it comes to fruition, since it was initially planned as a series with Netflix, before being abandoned for a feature-length film. Moreover, it could be seen as a way to encourage more players to discover the franchise in preparation for the third installment, which will conclude Aloy's post-post-apocalyptic story. Especially since this final installment may well have set its release window.
Big plans for Horizon 3 and the license's spin-offs
It's been a while since we've heard anything about what's currently being called "Horizon 3." A direct sequel to Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, this third installment is supposed to conclude the Aloy trilogy. It's therefore an essential opus to wrap up the story and thwart Nemesis's plans.
However, a renowned insider, TCMF Games, has shared new details about the project. According to its anonymous sources, Horizon 3 is indeed in development within the Guerrilla Games studio. After a notable departure from the team, let's remember that the studio had recruited a key figure from Bungie. However, the latter could be working on the multiplayer from the license after having cut his teeth on games like Destiny and Halo. Still, things are said to have started well and are even quite advanced.
In fact, the insider is already mentioning a potential release window. According to his echoes, Horizon 3 would have a chance of release during 2027. This is the year that already seems to be the perfect time for the arrival of the PS6 on the market if we stick to a 7-year life cycle for the PS5/Xbox Series generation, like the previous one. As a result, Guerrilla Games would be developing the title so that it arrives for the PS6 while being cross-gen. This was already the case for Forbidden West with the previous generation.
A release in two years would give the studio time to publish its Horizon multiplayer before the latest installment. At least, that's what TCMF Games suggests. Also, we can argue that PlayStation would like to avoid its big licenses finding themselves facing GTA 6 in 2026. The latter is shaking up the industry as we know it will be snapped up everywhere upon its release. However, Zero Dawn had already suffered from its release too close to Zelda Breath of The Wild, not being able to compare sufficiently on certain gameplay points. Horizon 3 should therefore not relive the same fate.
