Intergalactic: Naughty Dog is already preparing for the worst for its next game

Intergalactic: Naughty Dog is already preparing for the worst for its next game

It was one of the big surprises of The Game Awards 2024. To cap off a ceremony already packed with announcements, Naughty Dog unveiled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its upcoming game with a release date yet to be announced. And while the reactions from a large portion of players were immediately very positive, the studio still faced a wave of criticism on social media. In particular: the heroine played by Tati Gabrielle, who was in fact prepared by Neil Druckmann for what could await her.

The actress of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet anticipates the torrents of hate

This is indeed what the actress - also in the cast of season 2 of The Last of Us - recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly. "Neil prepared me. I know Troy [Baker's] experience, I know Ashley [Johnson's] experience... I know Laura Bailey's experience" assures the actress of Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet. She is obviously referring to the actors from the video game version of The Last of Us, who have all been victims of a wave of hate due to the story choices made by Naughty Dog in The Last of Us Part II.

"There was a lot of hate because I'm a woman, a woman of color, and I have a shaved head," Gabrielle adds, after specifying that she didn't find out about it right away due to her infrequent presence on social media. "But once I saw it, Neil said to me, 'Ignore it. No matter what happens, you and I are going to create something beautiful. We're going to create something we're proud of.'" Extremely reassuring words from the director of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, who is now also sadly accustomed to all this hate.

Fortunately, since the release of The Last of Us Part II, the creator seems to have learned to take a step back. "With The Last of Us Part II, we made some creative decisions that earned us a lot of hate. A lot of people love it, but a lot of people hate this game," he said in Sony's Creator to Creator format recently, talking about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. And when asked "Who cares?" by director Alex Garland, he laughed: "Exactly. But that's the joke. Like, you know what? Let's make something that won't interest people as much." Let's create a game about faith and religion.".

A new license signed by Naughty Dog

Because that's what Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will be about. In this new action-adventure game from Naughty Dog, we will discover the story of Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter played by Tati Gabrielle, in an alternate futuristic universe where technological advances have made space travel a reality since 1986. And while few details have yet been revealed about the game's setting or gameplay, we do know that it will be about surviving on a hostile planet populated by robots.
