Just over a month after the rollout of iOS 18.4 and the fanfare arrival of Apple Intelligence on compatible European iPhones, Apple has just released the Release Candidate for iOS 18.5. This is, in principle, the final version of iOS 18.5 beta, in a stable version that has yet to be tested by users enrolled in Apple's beta program. The final version of iOS 18.5 for the general public should arrive for everyone by next week.
Optimizations, but very few new features
After the many new features introduced by iOS 18.4 last month, one thing is certain, iOS 18.5 is likely to pale in comparison. Because this update doesn't bring any major changes. Just take a look at the release notes to see that. Apple introduces a new Pride wallpaper and implements a new alert in Screen Time control. So, when the Screen Time passcode is used on a child's iPhone, parents automatically receive a notification to inform them.
Another new feature in Mail, the native iOS email client, is that it is now possible to disable photos from your contacts. The option has been discreetly slipped into the options menu, represented by three small dots in the top right corner of the application.
Finally, Apple has completely revised the interface of the Apple Care and warranty page. This page, accessible by going to the Settings > General > Apple Care and Warranty has been reorganized for better readability.
Unless a major last-minute bug is discovered in the coming days and forces Apple to publish a Release Candidate 2, this latest version of iOS 18.5 is in principle the final version that will be offered to all users. While nothing is certain yet, its deployment could begin as early as Monday, May 12th around 7 p.m.
