Sonos and Ikea bury their Symfonisk connected speaker range

Sonos and Ikea have decided to discontinue the Symfonisk range: no new products are planned, existing inventories are "being removed," The Verge confirmed. Potential buyers are urged to rush to stores or the furniture giant's store before it's too late.

Software support for Symfonisk remains assured

The only consolation: existing products will continue to receive software updates. "Even though our collaboration is coming to an end and no new products will be released as part of this partnership, we will continue to support all existing Symfonisk products, so that customers can enjoy quality sound at home for many years to come," a spokesperson confirmed.

This discontinuation of Symfonisk is very unfortunate. The various creations signed by the two companies—bookshelf speakers, lamps, picture frames—had the particularity of integrating harmoniously into an interior decorated with Ikea colors, while offering full compatibility with the Sonos audio system. And what's more, these products are generally inexpensive, or at least excellent value for money.

Perhaps Ikea intends to take over the smart speaker business alone; the company already sells Bluetooth audio devices. After all, it's also a heavyweight in home automation with the Tradfri range. As for Sonos, the manufacturer has other fish to fry right now: it is still suffering the consequences of the catastrophic update of its app launched a year ago, and it continues to weigh down the company. Most recently, Sonos had to sacrifice its streaming box when the development of the product was almost ready.
