iPhone designer Jony Ive joins OpenAI in $6.5 billion alliance

While Google has just wrapped up its Google I/O conferences in style, it's OpenAI's turn to make the news with a major announcement. In a message posted on Elon Musk's social network, Sam Altman announced some news that should delight Apple product fans...

Indeed, in his post on X, the CEO of OpenAI announced a collaboration with, in his own words, "the greatest designer in the world." And if the name Jonathan Ive, or Jony Ive, doesn't mean much to you, chances are you have several products designed by him at home.

Thanks to this collaboration, OpenAI can now leverage a team of 55 collaborators, including researchers, scientists, and physicists.

Indeed, among the next steps awaiting Jony Ive and his team, we can already mention GPT-5. A few days ago, Jerry Tworek, vice president of OpenAI, had already mentioned the next model of OpenAI.

In this new multi-modal version, users should find all of the company's models brought together in a single interface.

However, this could be just one of the next missions entrusted to the former IO Products employees, because OpenAI's ambitions could soon focus on products that compete head-to-head with the smartphone giants...
