iPhone sales have been stable or slightly declining for several quarters, but the fact remains: it's still an Apple smartphone that's occupying the top spots in the ranking of best-selling phones. And the first quarter of 2025 was no exception, since it was the iPhone 16 that sold the most worldwide, according to figures from Counterpoint.
Apple far ahead of the competition
The presence of this model in first place also marks the return of the basic iPhone to the top after a two-year absence (until now it was a Pro model that reigned supreme). For the manufacturer, this isn't really a problem since it places 5 iPhones in the top 10! The very expensive iPhone 16 Pro Max is 2nd, the iPhone 16 Pro 3rd and the iPhone 15, the only survivor of the 2023 range, is 4th. The iPhone 16 Plus closes the gap in 10th place.
The iPhone 16 has seen very good sales, particularly in the Middle East and Japan: economic conditions have improved in these markets. As for the Pro and Pro Max models, they have experienced some difficulties in China, while the government generously subsidizes smartphones sold at lower prices. The competition is also much sharper.
Analysts note that the iPhone 16, absent from the quarterly ranking, still ranked 6th in March. This entry-level model, although quite expensive, is well on its way to achieving greater success than its fake predecessor, the iPhone SE 3.
Samsung isn't doing too badly, with 4 models in the top 10 best-selling rankings, thanks in particular to its affordable smartphones: the Galaxy A16 5G is 5th, the Galaxy A06 is 6th, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is 7th, and the Galaxy A55 5G is 9th. A slight disappointment for the manufacturer: the Galaxy S24 Ultra was 5th a year ago. Xiaomi manages to slip the Redmi 14C 4G into 8th position.
