It's official: Xiaomi has created its own chip, and it could seriously hurt the competition

Xiaomi is taking a big step towards technological independence with its first internally developed chip. Called XRING 01, this new product is already raising a lot of expectations. However, the manufacturer remains very discreet about its technical specifications.

It's official: Xiaomi has created its own chip, and it could seriously hurt the competition

For several years, smartphone manufacturers have been seeking to design their own components to better control their production. This strategy not only allows them to optimize the performance of their devices, but also to limit their dependence on foreign suppliers. In this context, Xiaomi is following the path set by Apple and Samsung and has just officially unveiled an internally developed chip.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced the arrival of the XRING 01 on social media. This is the brand's first in-house chip in a long time. Until now, even the most high-end models like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra or the Mix Fold 3 used Qualcomm Snapdragons.

The introduction of the XRING 01 chip therefore marks a strategic turning point for the brand. But beyond the name and the promise of a launch in the coming weeks, no technical details have been released. The manufacturer seems to want to maintain the suspense on this major project.

Xiaomi is preparing the XRING 01 chip engraved in 4 nm for its future high-end smartphones

According to previous information, the XRING 01 would be engraved in 4 nm by the Taiwanese foundry TSMC. The chip would use the most recent ARM cores, including a Cortex-X925 clocked at 3.2 GHz. This choice would allow Xiaomi to offer good performance while containing costs. A more advanced 3nm version is reportedly already ready in the lab and could enter production later this year if conditions allow.

To design this chip, Xiaomi reportedly mobilized a dedicated team of 1,000 people. This team was led by a former Qualcomm executive. The company even created a separate entity, likely to avoid potential obstacles related to international trade tensions. With the XRING 01, the brand is clearly demonstrating its long-term ambitions. The official launch is scheduled for the end of the month, and this company could thus enter a new era of technological development.
