This ambitious collaboration between Magic and Final Fantasy promises to delight fans of both universes by integrating iconic characters, innovative game mechanics, and brand-new illustrations!
A tribute to the sixteen main games
This expansion, the result of nearly five years of development between Wizards of the Coast and Square Enix, covers the sixteen main games of the Final Fantasy saga. Players will find iconic figures such as Cloud, Sephiroth, Terra, and Y’shtola, each represented by cards with specific mechanics and beautiful illustrations. Renowned artists such as Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura have contributed to this collection, offering unique visuals for some key characters.
New Game Mechanics
The expansion introduces several new mechanics inspired by the Final Fantasy universe:
- Job Selection – A hero can choose many paths, and the gear they wear can change their destiny. Job Selection is a new triggered ability found on select gear in this expansion.
- Saga Creatures – Summons will be featured in the expansion, in the form of the first-ever Saga Creatures from Magic: The Gathering. Players will be able to summon them to aid them during the game.
- Double-faced cards – Double-faced cards will be making a comeback in Magic: The Gathering – FINAL FANTASY. Simply play them face-up for their mana cost and meet the necessary conditions to transform them and reveal their back. The double-faced cards in the set will represent characters, mini-games, and key moments from FINAL FANTASY.
- Tiered – Some spells in this set have three different effects, each increasing in effectiveness based on the amount of mana you pay for them. These spells all carry the new keyword “tiered.”
- Adventures – Adventures return in this set. This time, you'll find them on a cycle of "Towns."
- Landcycling – Landcycling abilities, seen on cards with a basic land type like Plains, Island, Swamp, etc., allow you to discard a card to search your deck for a card with the specified land type. Nothing is more important in Magic than playing lands efficiently and ensuring you have enough mana to finish your game.
Products for Every Player
The set will be available in several formats:
- Game and Collector Boosters: For players who want to discover cards randomly.
- Bundles: Including several booster packs and game accessories.
- Preconstructed Commander Decks: Four themed decks centered on Final Fantasy VI, VII, X, and XIV, each featuring an iconic hero and specific synergies.
A limited edition of the famous Golden Chocobo from Final Fantasy VII will also be available, with only 77 copies worldwide, exclusively in English Collector Boosters.
A Highly Anticipated Launch
Pre-orders are now already open in specialty stores and online. Pre-launch events will take place starting June 6, giving players the opportunity to discover the expansion in advance.
