Since its debut, HBO's The Last of Us has proven that an extremely faithful adaptation can also be very good. The writers, who work closely with the original game's developers, have taken few liberties in this second season, and each change has been carefully measured and implemented.
Episode 2 was a real blow to fans of the saga. Indeed, the main highlight of this chapter (the details of which we will withhold at the beginning of this article) left many angry, while others naturally shed a few tears. In each case, a character, but especially an actor, beloved by all, had to go their separate ways. Yet, we see him again at the end of this episode 5. How is that possible?
Have you finished watching episode 5 of the series The Last of Us and are wondering what Pedro Pascal is still doing here? Don't panic, it's not a mirage. We'll have to wait a week to find out exactly what it's about, but we can already say that it's not a Jon Snow-style resurrection. HBO likes to play tricks on us, but they sometimes have their limits.
An explanation in the games?
Players who have already taken part in the experience The Last of Us Part II already know what awaits them next week. The awakening sequence at the end of Episode 5 brings us back to a flashback that is also present in the game. For the young girl's birthday, Joel takes Ellie on a nature excursion and brings her to a natural history museum.
In this sequence, it is possible to interact with quite a few objects, and to trigger dialogues between the two protagonists in relation to objects from the old days, the days before the Cordyceps pandemic. This is an opportunity to witness powerful moments that strengthen the father-daughter relationship between Ellie and Joel, a few years before their bond deteriorated. We don't yet know if this is the same sequence, but the appearance of Pedro Pascal can only suggest that Joel's character will be back in Episode 6... or not? Please let us know what you think.
This would be an opportunity for the actor to capitalize on his presence in the second season of the series, as his character doesn't last long in Naughty Dog's sequel. Viewers are not immune to a few emotional sequences, which must have already been the case during his appearance in the final seconds of the episode.
In any case, this episode 5 is a real tour de force, just like the other chapters of season 2. With all its action elements, its underlying intrigues, but especially the development of Ellie's character, the series The Last of Us manages to take flight and find its own soul after having long groped too close to the original material.
