Every day brings us closer to the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. Do you know what that means? That we'll soon be able to play Mario Kart World too! The latest installment in the racing franchise has been making people's mouths water since the console's official announcement. However, recent details have put some players on alert. Before the controversy gets too big, Nintendo is quick to set the record straight.
A real exit for Mario Kart World?
The Mario Kart World game is the first showcase title for the Nintendo Switch 2. Available from launch, it will take over from an eighth installment that was a hit throughout the previous console's lifespan. But one issue has sparked anger among fans after the first trailer was released: the game's price, set at €80 digitally and €90 physically. As if that weren't enough, a new controversy has just erupted, this time concerning the game's content itself. Several images from MK World have indeed alerted some players. These are illustrations present in the settings, the rendering of which raises doubts about the creative process. The lines are uncertain, the proportions disproportionate... What if these were actually images generated by artificial intelligence? This is the question that has begun to be raised on the web.
As this technology becomes increasingly sophisticated and accessible, its use is worrying the public. So, quickly contacted by the media Eurogamer, Nintendo hastened to provide a clear and precise response: "no AI-generated images were used in the development of Mario Kart World." It would therefore seem that these illustrations, appearing in a version currently in post-production, are 'only' non-final concept images. So don't panic, Big N doesn't seem ready to trade the creativity of its teams for technical ease with a more than uncertain result.
