Microsoft Copilot is getting the latest image generation and editing engine launched by OpenAI alongside ChatGPT's GPT-4o model. It's enough to give your photos the look of a drawing straight out of Studio Ghibli – among many other uses.
Microsoft is evolving image generation for free Copilot users. The firm has just added OpenAI's latest photo generation and modification engine, launched alongside the GPT-40 models. This replaces DALL-E, which was already capable of delivering convincing, but rather unpredictable, results.
Especially when asked to modify an existing photo. The new model generates more realistic images, more faithful to each of your prompts. Above all, it is noticeably better when it comes to modifying an existing image, which you attach to a prompt. All this with a fairly extensive graphic culture, which allows it to understand (and brilliantly execute) requests like: “remake this image in the style of Ghibli animation studios”.
Microsoft Copilot acquires the hyper-advanced image generator from ChatGPT-4o
Nothing new there: since the launch of the new image engine by OpenAI, one of its most popular uses has been to give photos features straight from the world of Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, The Wind Rises…). Users of the free tier of ChatGPT already had access to this new tool, but with limitations. What Microsoft Copilot is largely lifting for the general public.
It should be noted in passing that subscribers to Microsoft 365 Copilot (for enterprise) already had access to the new image generator since last month. Other AI-powered tools such as Microsoft Designer and Image Creator by Designer remain under the old Dall-E model. Microsoft continues to rely heavily on OpenAI for its artificial intelligence models.
The connection between the two companies has become even more evident since the botched ouster of Sam Altman as CEO a few months ago – which was accompanied by Microsoft writing a large check. However, recent developments in the sector are now pushing Satya Nadella's company towards independence. The firm is developing its own models, which could allow it to offer something that truly differentiates itself in the market in the near future.
