We are less than a month away from the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. It is indeed on June 5th that the Nintendo console will arrive worldwide and for the moment, it is safe to say that communication is rather discreet. Apart from the presentation of the console on April 2nd, we have not had the right to any other communication times.
So, to this day, we still do not know all the specifics of the machine, notably concerning the CPU, the GPU, the use of Nividia's DLSS or even the details on Native or Upscaled 4K. On the other hand, we now know the manufacturing cost of the console thanks to a report from the Financial Times and, let's be honest, it stings compared to the price of the console.
The Switch 2: a console that's really overrated in terms of price?
Indeed, in case you've already forgotten, but the Switch 2 will be offered at the hefty price of 469.99 euros in its standard version and at the price of 509.99 euros in a limited edition pack with Mario Kart World, which will be offered, for its part, at 89.99 euros in physical version. According to the latest news, Nintendo is already thinking of increasing the price of the machine.
And the cold shower continues regarding the price of the machine. According to a report from the Financial Times, the manufacturing cost of the Nintendo Switch 2 would be $338 (approximately €304). The Financial Times adds that this is the price shown in Vietnam's export data for customs duties.
The console would therefore cost €165 less than its retail price. Considering that Sony and Microsoft sold the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with a margin of less than €50, this really hurts Nintendo fans. Especially if the console increases its price in the near future.
Of course, this margin will vary depending on the territory and will inevitably be lower in the United States with the new tax and even higher in Japan, where the console will be offered at a very low price to alleviate the financial crisis the country is going through. So not everyone will be in the same boat, but for us in Europe, Nintendo will be able to offer itself a nice margin of 165 euros per console.
