Until now, choosing a gaming headset based on its design generally meant giving up on performance. Since clichés don't give anything or anyone a break, sleek peripherals are often relegated to the status of a general public product, while peripherals for "hardcore gamers" respond to very different codes. Angular shapes, excessive LEDs, tribal prints, and other fashion faux pas: gaming headsets are struggling to shake off the image of the male gamer of the 2010s. Fortunately, some brands are starting to evolve their products to meet the expectations of today's consumers. This is particularly the case for Logitech, which continues to enhance its gaming range with visually pleasing products, while avoiding technical compromises.
After the excellent G309 mouse launched last summer, the manufacturer unveils a headset that applies the same philosophy: ergonomics and performance at a rather affordable price. We'll have to wait to see the G522 when it releases on June 16th to see if it lives up to its promises, but here's what Logitech presents on paper.
Everything you need and more
The brand explains that it developed this headset with intuitiveness and durability as its main objectives. Thanks to its more natural and rounded shape, the G522 is easier to grip and place on the ears. New breathable foams will allow this accessory to be worn to avoid sweat and discomfort during long gaming sessions, even in hot weather. The suspension headband that Logitech has accustomed us to on most of its headsets has also been optimized to provide better weight distribution.
In terms of technical specifications, we will find a 48kHz/16-bit microphone and a 48kHz/24-bit audio signal for optimal sound quality, both in input and output. Logitech even goes so far as to promise “the lowest distortion rate ever measured on a Logitech G headset” thanks to the G522’s new sound architecture. It remains to be seen whether the sound will be reproduced in a way that is as “faithful, immersive and perfectly balanced” as the announcement press release suggests.
Gamers will also be able to take advantage of three different connectivity modes to meet their specific needs: Bluetooth, USB or LIGHTSPEED Wireless, the ultra-fast wireless connection system developed by the brand. It should also be noted that the settings applied will be directly saved in the headset, to facilitate the use of the product on other devices.
The G522 headset is therefore the ideal audio device to accompany gamers everywhere, and for the long term. To top it all off, this cutting-edge product will cost just €169.99, just €10 more than the famous G733, which is starting to show some signs of age. Enough to complete a modern, high-performance setup with ease.
