This year, Parc Astérix is preparing to inaugurate a new roller coaster designed for families and the most daring young Gauls. The Gallic area is expanding to welcome Cétautomatix: an attraction in homage to the village's famous blacksmith. Rather than quarrel with Ordralfabétix over his not-so-fresh fish, the craftsman has used his free time to open a chariot garage with a test track. This coaster will offer a winding course with a maximum height of 14 meters on which rotating wagons will soar at a top speed of 45 km/h. Suffice it to say, this ride sells the dream, but it has remained inaccessible since Parc Astérix reopened last April.
The final adjustments are being made to the attraction to ensure its inauguration goes smoothly. This was supposed to take place during the month of May, but it's clear that the Gallic engineers have fallen behind schedule. If you had planned your visit this month in the hope of being among the first visitors to discover Cétautomatix, you'll have to think again. The destination has just erased all reference to an imminent opening.
The coaster must pass its technix inspection
Tests continue throughout the day, but the official opening is not yet on the cards. While visitors can see empty floats launching themselves along the course throughout the day, Cétautomatix unfortunately has no plans to take on any real passengers in the coming days. Until now, the official Parc Astérix website proudly displayed the inauguration of its new ride in mid-May as a strong argument to attract crowds. But the tourist destination unfortunately had no choice but to change its mind. We're already halfway through May, and the lack of a specific opening date suggested an inevitable postponement.
Parc Astérix is likely trying to limit the damage, since no statement regarding this delay has been shared either. Everything was organized with the utmost secrecy, with the removal of the inauguration notice, now replaced by "opening soon" (which can be found on the page dedicated to Filotomatix queue-jumping). Now, everything is just speculation regarding the actual inauguration of Cétautomatix. All that remains is to hope that this postponement will be shorter than expected and that the coaster will be able to welcome its first visitors during the summer months, which are always busy for the Gauls.
