Stardew Valley's successor shouldn't disappoint fans

Stardew Valley's successor shouldn't disappoint fans

It's been nine years since Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, gave his all to Stardew Valley. A farm life simulator that is one of the biggest successes on the indie scene with over 41 million copies sold. Despite the workload involved in the title, and more specifically its follow-up with the addition of content and the resolution of issues, the creator announced Haunted Chocolatier in 2021. Four years later, the game still hasn't been released, but things are moving forward and the developer wants to do things right.

After Stardew Valley wants to push creativity

Even if it will still take some time, Eric Barone is now immersed in the post-Stardew Valley with Haunted Chocolatier. "Everything's settled now, so I've committed to not working on Stardew Valley again until I've finished Haunted Chocolatier," he recently told PC Gamer. This is excellent news, although we don't really know when the game will be released. And it's not out of the question that it could take a few more years, especially since the creator doesn't want to rush into doing things properly and at his own pace after Stardew Valley.

For now, Stardew Valley's successor is quite enigmatic, but Eric Barone spoke about it again with PC Gamer. And it shouldn't disappoint fans. "I see [Stardew Valley] as a sunny, bright, and lush game, while Haunted Chocolatier is darker and more mysterious. Not evil, but just mysterious and a little paranormal, you know, things you're not sure what they mean."

During this interview, he also discussed the genre of Haunted Chocolatier. As stated a long time ago, it will be a life simulation like Stardew Valley, but with an RPG dimension. A title that aims to stimulate the imagination and creativity to leave a lasting impression on players. "I would simply say it's a life simulation game, similar to Stardew Valley in many ways. It's the kind of game I like to create. Haunted Chocolatier really interests me because it stimulates imagination and creativity. I want to give my all to create strange and interesting things. I love delivering memorable experiences." As for a hypothetical Stardew Valley 2, don't count on it too much...
