We know the drill by now. As Summer Game Fest approaches, rumors are rife about various publishers' plans, and Sony is no exception. The manufacturer has made a habit of making a statement ahead of the summer event, usually in May. In recent weeks, confusion has set in as various insiders, despite being credible, can't seem to agree. One day, there's talk of a State of Play by the end of the month, the next, a PlayStation Showcase in September. If that wasn't already unclear enough, now Jeff Grubb is sticking to his guns. According to him, a State of Play should take place soon, but it wouldn't be imminent.
When will the next State of Play take place?
Following up on the latest rumor launched by NatetheHate, who explained that he hadn't heard anything about a PS5 conference this month, the journalist explains that he hasn't either, and that's normal. "It's because something is coming up in June," he clarified on Game Mess Mornings. So PlayStation Showcase or State of Play? Grubb is leaning more towards the second option, although internally Sony can't really decide between the two events. "They're hesitating between holding a PlayStation Showcase or their usual State of Play. They seem to have stopped at the SoP. I'm not 100% sure, but it will be in June.," he adds.
In any case, this would be an opportunity for Sony to put a final spotlight on Death Stranding 2 On the Beach, which is scheduled for release on June 26, 2025 on PS5. Housemarque, the creators of Returnal, had already let the cat out of the bag: a more detailed presentation of its next game, Saros, is planned for later in the year. Let's not forget Ghost of Yotei, scheduled for October 2 and just waiting to be shown at greater length. Not to mention the new announcements from this possible State of Play to shed light on the PS5's portfolio for the coming months, which is still quite vague at the moment. All that remains is to wait for a potential confirmation from Sony. Until then, all this information should obviously be taken with a pinch of salt until it is officially announced.
