While Thunderbolts* is enjoying minor theatrical success, is superhero fatigue about to wane? We don't know, but it seems that Hollywood majors are determined to bring out the big guns by offering several very promising projects. Here is the schedule of the 15 biggest releases awaiting superhero fans on television and in cinema.
Attention: the films and series below are listed in order of release!
#1 Superman, by James Gunn
After delivering a little appetizer with the animated series Creature Commandos, launched on Max in December 2024, James Gunn is giving his fans a date in July with the Superman film, which he wrote and directed and which will be the first feature film in the DCU. Obviously, the challenge is enormous for the filmmaker, since he must show that the new DC cinematic universe is capable of competing with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, our expectations are very high and we have complete confidence in the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, who has shown on several occasions how much he loves comics and knows how to master his camera. We can't wait!
Release date: July 9, 2025.
#2 Fantastic Four: Beginning, by Matt Shakman
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to have regained momentum with the film Thunderbolts*, we have reason to be optimistic about the next feature film from Marvel Studios: Fantastic Four: Beginning. With the primary mission of launching Phase 6 of the MCU and unveiling its narrative stakes, the film will be the first adventure of one of the most famous superhero teams in the Marvel stable. In addition to its cast (rather attractive, with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the lead roles), the film already seduces thanks to its retro-futuristic aesthetic inspired by the 1960s. Certainly, the choice to entrust the project to Matt Shakman, showrunner of the excellent series WandaVision, was a very good idea.
Release date: July 23, 2025.
#3 Peacemaker (season 2), by James Gunn
Barely a month after the release of Superman, DC fans will finally be able to get their eyes on the highly anticipated season 2 of Peacemaker. Still developed by James Gunn, the second batch of episodes of Christopher Smith's adventures will see the anti-hero battling Rick Flag Sr., but also a character who appears to be Apache Chief. Season 2 looks set to be just as crazy and action-packed as the first, much to the delight of fans. The trailer, released on Friday, May 9, 2025, confirms the presence of two superheroes, Guy Gardner (aka Green Lantern) and Hawkgirl, who will make their debut in Superman. We'll also be treated to a confrontation between Peacemaker and Peacemaker. It's promising!
Release date: August 22, 2025.
#4 Gen V (season 2), by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters
After an explosive first season, praised for its irreverent and provocative tone, its complex characters, and its satirical universe, fans are eager to see the students of Godolkin University again in their struggles for power and survival. The end of season 1, with its revelations about the anti-supe virus and the cameos of Butcher and Homelander, left some storylines open. Scheduled for 2025 on Prime Video, season 2 ofGen Vis already shaping up to be an unmissable event of the year, while waiting for the final season ofThe Boys.
Release date: 2025.
#5 Daredevil: Born Again (season 2), by Matt Corman, Chris Ord and Dario Scardapane
While not without its flaws, the first season of Daredevil: Born Again is undoubtedly one of Marvel Studios' best recent productions and, more importantly, one of Disney+'s best programs. With its polished direction and love for the characters from the Netflix series, the show has captivated Matt Murdock fans. The good news is that we won't have to wait several years for Season 2, which will arrive next spring, with the goal of bringing the series to a close. We hope for a season 2 even more memorable than the first!
Release date: March 2026.
#6 Avengers: Doomsday, by the Russo brothers
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced many setbacks following the box office triumph of Avengers: Endgame (2019), the Russo brothers are back with a new Avengers film. In Doomsday, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four and Bryan Singer's X-Men will face off against Dr. Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. The recent success of Thunderbolts* and all the promises of the film Fantastic Four: First Steps give us hope for the revival of the MCU. We hope that Avengers: Doomsday will manage to generate the same enthusiasm as Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. To be continued!
Release date: April 29, 2026.
#7 Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, by Craig Gillepsie
Less than a year after the release of Superman, the DCU will return to theaters with the release of the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. After making a first appearance in the film Superman, Kara Zor-El, Kal-El's cousin, aka Clark Kent, will be getting her own feature film. She will be played by Australian actress Milly Alcock, best known for playing the role of young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of House of the Dragon. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be heavily inspired by the eponymous comic book by Tom King. Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts will play Krem of the Ochre Hills, a ruthless pirate, while Jason Momoa will play Lobo.
Release date: June 24, 2026.
#8 Spider-Man: Brand New Day, by Destin Daniel Cretton
Director of the very enjoyable Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - which is certainly one of the most successful post-Endgame Marvel Cinematic Universe -, Destin Daniel Cretton was initially supposed to direct Avengers: Doomsday before the project was taken away from him in favor of the Russo brothers. However, Kevin Feige found a compromise by entrusting him with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will mark the return of Spider-Man played by Tom Holland. Although we know almost nothing about the project, the presence of Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm of the project is enough to motivate us!
Release date: July 29, 2026.
#9 Clayface, by James Watkins
A lover of the character of Clayface, screenwriter Mike Flanagan - known for being one of the great architects of the revival of horror cinema - proposed a script to James Gunn for a Clayface film in the form of a gothic film. Directed by James Watkins, the film is very promising. While the absence of Batman might deter some fans from watching the film, we can only appreciate the risk. Especially since we have great confidence in Mike Flanagan, to whom we owe the series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, which established him as Stephen King's greatest heir.
Release date: September 9, 2026
#10 Invincible (season 4), by Robert Kirkman
Launched in March 2021 on Amazon Prime Video, the animated series Invincible, developed by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) based on his own comic book, is one of the most exciting series of the last five years. Brutal in its brilliance, the series tells like no other the consequences of extraordinary powers on bodies and minds. Season 3, which aired in spring 2025, was a huge success. After facing Conquest, Mark Grayson must now face new challenges. Robert Kirkman has already announced the release of season 4 for 2026. We can't wait!
Release date: 2026.
#11 Lanterns, by Chris Mundy, Tom King and Damon Lindelof
Like Marvel, James Gunn and Peter Safran intend to occupy both the small and big screens. He demonstrated this with Creature Commandos, the first entry in the DCU.Among all the announced DC original series, Lanterns is undoubtedly the most appealing. Directed by Chris Mundy, it is the result of a collaboration between HBO, Tom King, and the brilliant Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Watchmen). Heavily inspired by the first season of True Detective, it will follow Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate in Nebraska.
Release date: 2026.
#12 The Boys (season 5)
In 2019, Amazon Prime Video scored a huge success with the series The Boys, inspired by the comics by Northern Irish writer Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Punisher, Hellblazer). As trashy as it is hilarious, this superhero series has definitely established Prime Video as an alternative to DC Comics and Marvel. (A trend confirmed by the 2021 launch of the animated series Invincible on the platform.) Above all, Eric Kripke's series has become a firebrand against the fascisation of our capitalist societies. In 2026, The Boys will conclude with a highly anticipated season 5 that should provoke very strong reactions.
Release date: 2026
#13 Avengers: Secret Wars, by the Russo brothers
Marvel Studios and the Disney group have the ambition to repeat the winning double of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the top of American entertainment cinema in terms of box office. Not content with bringing back the Russo brothers, they will offer us in 2026 and 2027 a new two-parter that already promises to be an event. While the Avengers seem to be missing from Avengers: Doomsday, judging by the casting revealed earlier this year, they should likely return in Avengers: Secret Wars. There is no doubt that their presence will be essential in fighting Dr. Doom and restoring peace to the Multiverse.
Release date: May 5, 2027.
#14 Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
Following the triumph of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which gave a real lesson to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in how to manage a multiverse, while setting new standards in animated cinema, fans are eagerly awaiting the third and final installment of the trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Initially announced for 2024, the feature film has been postponed to 2027. Two visuals have been unveiled to the public, and we can say that the film has some good looks! At the same time, how could we expect anything other than a masterpiece, given the first two installments?
Release date: June 2, 2027.
#15 The Batman: Part II, by Matt Reeves
Several times delayed, The Batman: Part II will arrive in our theaters in the fall of 2027. To say that the film is eagerly awaited is a gross understatement! While the first film was very warmly received, notably for its splendid artistic direction and its twisting storyline paying homage to both film noir and the cinema of David Fincher, fan excitement reached its peak thanks to the excellent series The Penguin, broadcast on HBO at the end of 2024 and whose plot takes place one week after the events of The Batman. Still full of mystery, The Batman: Part II should likely take place during the winter. We can't wait to learn more about it and discover it in theaters!
