The Hunger Games recruits a Stranger Things star for its next film

The Hunger Games recruits a Stranger Things star for its next film

While The Hunger Games franchise prefers to rely on beginner profiles for its protagonists, this rule does not apply to the other characters who grace the stories of author Suzanne Collins. The original trilogy boasted the talents of renowned actors and actresses, such as Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Julian Moore, and Donald Sutherland, to name a few. Even the prequel, The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird, was able to secure the presence of Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schaefer, and Viola Davis. And unsurprisingly, since the next film in the franchise promises to be more ambitious than ever, big names are starting to join the project.

To everyone's surprise, Maya Hawke joins the Hunger Games adventure in the role of Wiress, a District 3 winner first seen in the second installment, Catching Fire. In addition to a physical resemblance to the original actress, Amanda Plummer, the young actress – who most viewers will recognize from her role as Robin in Stranger Things – is known for her strange and atypical roles, which does justice to the character of Wiress. But this addition to the cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping isn't the only one to have caused a stir.

A 5-star cast that keeps growing

Since the casting announcement for the roles of Haymitch and Lenore Dove – who will be played by Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak – the faces of six other characters have also been revealed. First of all, the teaser dedicated to Maysilee Donner, one of the tributes from District 12, did not fail to make a lot of noise since it is the young McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Legacy / Young Sheldon) who will represent the character on screen.

The young Plutarch Heavensbee will be played by Jesse Plemons (Kinds of Kindness), an almost obvious choice since the 37-year-old actor has already played the son of the previous interpreter of Plutarch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) on screen.

The role of Beetee Latier, a tribute from District 3 also seen in the original trilogy, has been given to Kelvin Harrison Jr., a young actor of 30 who also played the son of his predecessor on screen (Jeffrey Wright).

On Wednesday night, Lionsgate released a teaser revealing the face of another key character: the kind Mags Flanagan, winner of the 11th Hunger Games. Actress Lili Taylor (The Conjuring: The Warren Files) will play Haymitch's mentor (and Finnick Odair).

The latest casting announcement, posted this Thursday evening, lifted the veil on the actor who plays Wyatt Callow. The second male tribute from District 12 will be played by Ben Wang (The Karate Kid: Legends / Chinese American).

As a reminder, The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping will be released in French cinemas on November 18, 2026.
