Lara Croft will soon return to the spotlight in a future Amazon Prime Video series. The platform hopes to develop a new hit series based around this iconic PlayStation character. A series that will notably be led by Sophie Turner, completely unrecognizable for the needs of the role.
Lara Croft Through Time
Tomb Raider is a cult license of the PlayStation.Created in 1996 by Core Design, Tomb Raider is an emblematic adventure saga, an iconic video game of the 1990s, somewhere between Indiana Jones and James Bond. The player embodies Lara Croft, an adventurer and archaeologist who has become a powerful symbol of the representation of women in the very masculine world of video games. Around ten installments have been released since the franchise was created in 1996. Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018), the latest, was a critical success.
Tomb Raider has already been adapted for the big screen several times. The first time in the early 2000s was with the two films starring Angelina Jolie. In 2018, Alicia Vikander became the face of Lara Croft through a reboot more faithful to the video games. A sequel was initially in the pipeline, but Warner Bros changed its mind. In 2024, the famous heroine also appeared on Netflix, through an animated series titled Tomb Raider – The Legend of Lara Croft.
Sophie Turner – the new Lara Croft
Lara Croft will soon return to the screens since Amazon Prime Video is currently working on developing a live-action series around the character. A series that will be developed by actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, recently seen in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
For the moment, we still know nothing about this series expected in 2028 on the platform, except that Sophie Turner will play the heroine. Indeed, the 29-year-old actress, who has been a little rare these days, has been chosen to be the face of Lara Croft. Known for her roles as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and Jean Grey in the latest X-Men films, Lara Croft could be a new, solid string to her acting bow.
