Unlikely, Michael Bay's next film is an adaptation of a meme

Humanoid toilets and enemies that look like household appliances are Michael Bay's crazy new project. The director of Transformers and Bad Boys is preparing a new film. Three years after Ambulance, he's tackling an internet phenomenon: Skibidi Toilet. The rumor had been circulating for a while, and Bay took to his Instagram account to make the project official.

A phenomenon among Generation Alpha

In 2023, a certain Alexei Gerasimov published a video called Skibidi Toilet. In 1080 x 1920 pixels format, the sequence features the face of a human being who appears stuck in the toilet bowl. Catchy music accompanies the video, which quickly became known on social media. The craze is such that a real series is born.

In several episodes and seasons, it tells the story of the war between the alien Skibidi toilets and humanoids with surveillance devices instead of faces. The series is made using the Source game engine, developed by Valve, which has led to titles like Half-Life and Quake.

On his channel Dafuq!? Boom!, Alexei Gerasimov has accumulated billions of views. A reputation that Invisible Narratives hopes to capitalize on. Last July, its founder explained that he was in full discussion, both for television and cinema. The goal for the company, taking control of the license, is to release it in numerous formats.

Last May, a partnership with Bonkers Toys was announced to allow the sale of derivative products. The characters were also featured in Fortnite in December 2024. The next step will apparently be to invest in dark rooms with Michael Bay directing.

The new Avengers?

The sequence published on Instagram this week is lacking in details. Michael Bay simply presents two characters looking towards the sky with the phrase “They are coming” in the caption. No release date, no cast, or even a synopsis.

We do know, however, that VFX talents like Rob Legato have been recruited to bring the film to fruition. Adam Goodman has high hopes for this upcoming franchise. He told Variety last year: “He (Alexei Gerasimov) is building something that could be the next Transformers or a Marvel universe.”
