We've become accustomed to seamless updates for our smartphone apps, and Microsoft wants to integrate such a system for Windows 11 PCs.
In recent years, Microsoft has been showering us with AI features of varying usefulness. And now the publisher announces a very practical feature, which we have been waiting for for a long time, and which has nothing to do with AI: a unified update system for applications installed on your PC, all driven by Windows Update on Windows 11. “Finally”, we want to say, while the software update experience on the OS has become archaic compared to what we know on mobile with Android and iOS.
Microsoft explains that “updates in the Windows ecosystem can seem fragmented”, which is an understatement. The new unified update orchestration platform will be “capable of handling all updates,” whether they’re drivers or new versions of an application, for a more consistent experience.
Windows 11 will update your software more seamlessly.
“The orchestrator will coordinate all built-in products updated on Windows 11,” it was reported. All applications developed by Microsoft should be compatible with this new method. For third-party applications, studios will have to ensure that the software is supported through a set of Windows Runtime (WinRT) APIs and PowerShell commands made available by Microsoft.
Updates will be intelligently deferred based on user activity, system performance, AC power connection, and Windows update times. Native Windows Update notifications can be used to seamlessly inform users. Additionally, a centralized update history will allow users to check at a glance which updates have been recently installed or are available, as is currently the case for Windows updates.
Windows 11 fixes a major flaw in Microsoft's OS with this new feature. A private preview for developers will give them time to prepare for the final rollout of the unified program update platform.
