Windows 11: Microsoft launches a new Calendar app

A few weeks ago, Microsoft introduced two new applications, or rather two new companion apps, for Windows 11: Contacts and File Search. The Redmond company has now added a third companion application, none other than Calendar.

View your appointments for the day at a glance

These "mini" applications, which work like traditional applications, display a floating, minimized window as soon as you click on the dedicated icon from the taskbar. Microsoft also suggests pinning them to them so you can always find them in the same place. But be careful, these companion apps, including Calendar, are only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers.

These mini-apps are designed to "help you work faster and more efficiently," according to Microsoft. With its companion Calendar app, Microsoft wants to give you quick access to all the appointments and events saved in your calendar for the day or week.

Where the companion calendar is undoubtedly best illustrated is when it comes to joining a meeting or responding to an invitation. Because you can do this very simply, in just two clicks on the icon pinned to the Windows 11 taskbar. You can quickly join a Microsoft Teams meeting, open a discussion, or even quickly search for specific events.

For now, the Calendar companion application (and others) are only available in a test version for Windows 11 users who have installed the Microsoft 365 desktop apps (and therefore have an associated subscription). This will require the machine to be enrolled in Microsoft's Insider program, as these apps are currently only deployed in the Beta channel.
