Xbox Portable: Two consoles in preparation for 2025 and 2027?

What is Microsoft planning for its gaming subsidiary? In recent months, it's been coming from all sides. Well-informed journalists and insiders are talking about a new generation, Xbox Prime, which could arrive as early as next year, or in 2027. There's also talk of a portable console, in partnership with ASUS, which could be released as early as this year.

Today, it's the media outlet Windows Central, generally very well informed about Microsoft's plans, which informs us that a second portable Xbox console is already planned for 2027.

Xbox: multiple portable consoles in development?

Xbox Portable: Two consoles in preparation for 2025 and 2027?

While the first Xbox Portable was to be a collaboration between Microsoft and ASUS, it seems, according to information from Windows Central, that the American manufacturer is indeed preparing a real portable Xbox, entirely designed by itself.

According to initial information, this portable Xbox would feature a dock, like the Switch2, allowing the console to be placed on a station to boost its performance. This console is expected to be released in 2027 and would allow players to access their Steam and Epic Games Store games.

Xbox and Microsoft don't seem to be the only ones interested in portable and hybrid consoles. According to the latest rumors, Sony and PlayStation are also preparing a similar concept for its PS6 with a portable PS6 allowing you to play PlayStation games anywhere and natively, and not only via remote play or the Cloud as is the case with the PlayStation Portal.

With the immense success of the Switch and the craze around the Switch 2, not to mention the strong comeback of portable consoles like the Steam Deck or the Asus ROG Ally, Sony and Microsoft seem to have a great interest in offering similar solutions for their audience. It remains to be seen how this will be offered and at what price!
