Xiaomi has officially unveiled its very first electric SUV, the YU7. This model marks a new step in the group's automotive strategy. Designed as a separate vehicle from the SU7, it focuses on comfort, aerodynamics, and technological equipment.
After the SU7 sedan, Xiaomi unveils the YU7, a completely redesigned 100% electric SUV. This is not just a raised derivative, but a new model designed with its own codes. The name “YU7” comes from the Chinese word meaning “to ride the wind,” an image that reflects the vehicle’s dynamic and modern positioning. The brand insists on an approach combining performance, space and technology, in a format intended for drivers looking for a large electric SUV.
In terms of design, the YU7 retains visual elements of the SU7 range, while asserting its own identity. It adopts more pronounced lines, a one-piece aluminum hood of more than 3 m² and a new lighting signature with hollowed-out front optics and wide-angle lighting. The aerodynamics are improved thanks to ten ventilation ducts and active flaps at the front. Xiaomi claims a drag coefficient of 0.245, which improves the vehicle's overall range. The door handles remain completely invisible under normal conditions and deploy automatically when the driver approaches using the key. This mechanism, both discreet and intelligent, improves aerodynamics while reinforcing the high-tech aspect of the latter.
The Xiaomi YU7 is available in three colors and has a cabin focused on comfort
The Xiaomi YU7 is available in three shades inspired by nature, with complex metallic finishes. These colors were designed to highlight the vehicle's volume and vary according to the light:
- Emerald Green: a deep shade with changing reflections, inspired by precious stones.
- Titanium Silver: a shiny gray with thick glitter to create a play of shadow and light.
- Lava Orange: a paint from the SU7, with a double layer for more contrast depending on the lighting.
Inside, the Xiaomi YU7 offers a sober but neat approach. The HyperVision panoramic screen, housed at the base of the windshield, projects driving data into the field of vision. This display surface reaches 1.1 meters in width. The SUV also features a central screen and remote controls for passengers. The space has been optimized to offer good volume in the front and rear, with massaging and reclining seats. Three color schemes are available: light gray, coral orange, and dark blue. The trunk reaches up to 1,970 liters with the seats folded down.
The Xiaomi YU7 has a range of 835 km and offers three engine configurations
The Xiaomi YU7 is available in three variants, each with a different engine and battery. The range can reach up to 835 km according to the CLTC cycle. Here are the three announced configurations:
- YU7 Standard: rear-wheel drive, 96.3 kWh battery, range of 835 km.
- YU7 Pro: all-wheel drive, 96.3 kWh battery, range of 760 km.
- YU7 Max: all-wheel drive, 101.7 kWh battery, range of 770 km.
Acceleration is announced at 3.23 seconds for 0 to 100 km/h on the all-wheel drive versions. The top speed reaches 253 km/h. Xiaomi also integrates an 800V electric platform for very fast charging: 10 to 80% in 12 minutes, or up to 620 km of range recovered in 15 minutes.
The chassis is based on a steel-aluminum structure with crumple zones at the front and reinforcements under the floor. Xiaomi mentions a high body rigidity and reinforced protection around the battery pack. The assisted driving system is based on a combination of LiDAR sensors, 4D radars, cameras and a dedicated NVIDIA chip. The electronic infrastructure has also been redesigned with a centralized module and a Snapdragon processor for interface management. To date, Xiaomi has not disclosed the pricing of the YU7. Marketing is scheduled for July in China, with no details on a possible international launch.
