Borderlands 4: After the big controversy, a big announcement that will reassure

After years of waiting, Borderlands 4 finally came to light in early 2025. Since then, the game has been holding off on its announcements in order to gradually reveal what it has in store for players. But another detail was also mentioned by the studio and it's safe to say it made some people grind their teeth. Finally, some good news has just arrived and it will really reassure fans!

Borderlands 4 is finally making up for lost time with players

It's a bit of a topic that's been debated everywhere lately when we talk about video games: the price. First there were all the questions surrounding GTA 6, then Mario Kart World, which really drove the point home with a price between €80 and €90. However, everything then suggested that Borderlands 4 would also ride this trend. Randy Pitchford, the studio's founder, is not innocent. He made a number of statements that got players boiling before trying to make up for it.

Finally, the question of Borderlands 4's price was resolved at the beginning of this week. It was the publisher, 2K, who lifted the veil on the prices applied to the different editions of the game. However, they are in fact standard, with a price of 70 dollars for the game alone:

  • Standard at 69.99 dollars: base game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC (Steam / Epic Games Store).
  • Deluxe at 99.99 dollars: standard game + Bounty Pack + 1 Firehawk's Fury weapon skin
  • Super Deluxe at 129.99 dollars: same as the Deluxe version + Vault Hunter Pack + Ornate Order Pack

The different packs basically add additional missions, bosses, maps and cosmetics to the set. Every edition of Borderlands 4 is eligible for pre-order now. If you checkout before the game's release on September 12, 2025, you'll get the bonus Gilded Glory Pack. It includes a Vault Hunter skin, a weapon skin, and the ECHO-4 Drone skin.

Randy Pitchford explains the choice of cost for the consumer

Alongside the launch of Borderlands 4 pre-orders, the YouTube channel Back Log Banter published an interview with Randy Pitchford. He discussed the evolution of Gearbox Software, as well as the upcoming game. He thus clarified the studio's pricing strategy regarding it.

First, Pitchford discusses price increases. He acknowledges that an additional $10 on a game can indeed have a considerable impact in certain cases, particularly for indie studios. However, for a large studio like the one behind Borderlands 4, the effect seems much less significant. But he still believes that "value" takes precedence when deciding price, as with an $80 Mario Kart World, which he believes is worth the investment.

However, Borderlands 4 will not exceed $70 if you buy it alone. Ritchford justifies this price range by the fact that it is a "high-end production. More than that, he reassures many fans by insisting on the fact that it is a "complete product." So, even if content could be added later, don't expect to be whipping out your credit card every morning. This isn't a service game, so it wasn't designed with a "microtransaction-based" model. Finally words that should reconcile some people with the boss!
